Advances knowledge to sustain global leadership.
With an annual budget of £881 million (FY 2019), we are one of main funding source for approximately 18 percent of all UK supported basic research conducted by UK’s colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, UKSF is the major source of Science Foundation.
The UK Science Foundation (UKSF) is classed as official development assistance (ODA) and has been allocated under Section 1 of the International Development Act 2002. UK Science Foundation (UKSF) activities need to demonstrate that they are aiming to contribute to a reduction in poverty, and aim to further sustainable development (development that is likely to generate lasting benefits for the population of the country to which it is provided) or improve the welfare of the population of UK Science Foundation countries.
